Monthly Update 1: February 2017

Welcome to the first monthly update post for the Morris Lions Club. These posts are here to keep our community informed on what we have been doing for each month.

Updates for February

On February 2, district 1-BK Governor, Pat Gaffny, came to update us on the happenings around our district. She also, updated us on the 1-BK convention, being held on March 11, in Bowling brook. We were encouraged to attend and volunteer at the Centennial convention, held at the end of June, in Chicago. She emphasized that this is the closest international convention Morris Lions will ever see. We finished our meeting with the usual round of updates and committee reports.

On February 16Th, we started our meeting a little earlier than usual, we met at 6:00 for dinner, and we followed dinner with a short meeting. At 7:00 we headed over to The Morris Theatre Guild To see a production of “Harvey”. It was a fun, silly play, that involved a family, a sanitarium, and a rabbit. Also, said rabbit was six foot tall and invisible. Everyone had a wonderful time, and a thank you goes out to our very own Lion Judy Miller, director of the wonderful play, for putting on a great performance.

Updates On Projects

On February 20Th, Lions Benjamin Swiggett and Stephanie Coleman finished setting up the kiosk inside the Morris Library for the Centennial Legacy Project. This display is located just inside the library entrance, and it has information on Diabetes. As well as, information on the Morris Hospital Diabetes Program. Special thanks to the Morris Library for the use of one of their display racks.

Coming in March and April

Up next, we have a meeting March 2nd at the Coal City Lions Club to celebrate Saint Patrick’s Day. We are having a nice dinner of Corned Beef and cabbage, along with some fun entertainment and Irish themed jokes. On March 16Th, we have a regular business meeting at the Eagles Hall in Morris. Coming up, on April 15Th, we have our Easter Egg Hunt.
