Morris Lions Preparing for 26th Annual Car Show
The Morris Lions Club members are busy preparing for their 26th annual Fall Classic Car Show at LyondellBasell Recreation Area on Sunday, October 14th. One of the largest car shows in the area, it features not only up to 1225 classic show cars, but also offers a Swap Meet and Car Corral for those wishing to browse or buy cars or car related items. The many food vendors will be waiting as well with a variety of goodies to round out a wonderful day. The Car Show is located 5 miles East of Morris, on IL Route 6 at Tabler Road.
Show car owners can register their cars from 7 A.M. until Noon, to be ready for judging and awards at 3:30 P.M. This is a judged show, featuring 43 classes with 3 awards per class, for a $15 registration fee for those not already pre-registered. Eight special awards will also be given, such as Best Display, Club Participation, and Longest Distance Traveled to the show. The first 650 show cars will receive Dash plaques, as they register their cars.
Spectators can attend for a $5.00 donation, and will enjoy seeing the cars, shopping at the Swap Meet and Car Corral, and visiting the many food vendors. Tickets will be available for the Raffle Car: a 1968 Ford Mustang from Volo Auto Museum. Raffle Car tickets are $5.00 each or 3 for $10.00. 50/50 tickets will also be available for $1.00 each or 6 for $5.00. Music and Commentary will again be provided by 3D Sound of Dixon, Illinois, and Show Shirts and the Dash plaques will again be provided by Screwball’s T-Shirts and Signs of Waterman, Illinois. There will also be a free shuttle service provided by Illinois Central School Bus, to take spectators from the parking areas to the gate.
Morris Lions take pride in the fact that 100% of the profits from the show, the raffle car, and the 50/50 drawing all go back into the community. Last year’s Car Show resulted in over $50,000 being donated to groups who help with the Car Show and projects to help our community. The Morris Lions Club helps maintain the Morris Lions City Park, and has provided pavilions for every park in the city that currently has one.
The Morris Lions Club is a volunteer organization dedicated to leadership development through community service, and is part of a world-wide service organization. Community members wishing to join or learn about Morris Lions Club are encouraged to attend meetings, held the first and third Thursdays at the Eagles’ Hall in Morris, or to contact a member. Information will also be available at the Car Show for those wishing to get involved in serving our community. For additional information, contact Lion Doug Linn at 815-942-8262.
