A great start to the new year!

The new year is here, and we kicked it off in a big way with two donations and a partnership.

On Monday, January 16th, two of our Lions, Stephanie Coleman and Benjamin Swiggett, presented a check for $5,000 to the Morris Hospital Diabetes Program as part of our Centennial Project. This project is to celebrate the founding of the first Lions Club in Chicago in 1917. Along with the donation we are also partnering with the Morris Hospital to setup an informational display in the Morris Library. The display will be located just inside the front entrance to the library, and it will have information on Diabetes and the Morris Hospital Diabetes Program. The display will be set up in the coming weeks. We also would like to send our thanks to the Morris library for the use of one of their rotating display racks.

Our second donation was made by Dr. Larry Johnson to Phil Jass Administrator of the Grundy County Health Department. The major focus of this $5,000 donation is to be able to help people who cannot afford their medication. Helping them be able to receive it in a timely fashion will prevent them from having to be off medication and subsequently suffer setbacks and problems. In many cases being off their medicines make them end up in the emergency room, jail, or even worse the coroner’s office. If we can help them stay on their medicines, they will be able to have a much better lifestyle and also be less of a liability to the county in general.
